Most "championship" BBQ cooks can't pull off the quality they win championships with in a restaurant. Quantity is hard to follow up with quality. Ubon's is an exception. These folks put out great food all the time. Don't like BBQ? Try the plate lunch. Love burgers??? I do and Ubon's cooks them to order for only $5! One of the best things here is the sauce. Like most Mississippi sauces, Ubon's puts a bit of sweet in theirs but they balance it nicely with some sweet. I love a destination eat place and Ubon's fits the bill. It's not just BBQ it's GOOD eats. Check it out.

I'll preface this review by stating that I do know the owners of Ubon's, and they are by far some of the nicest people I have ever met. Regardless, I will be as objective as possible throughout this review. Ubon's is located right off of Highway 49 (Jerry Clower Blvd) in Yazoo City, MS. The building is an unassuming sort of place, but walking in to the restaurant gives you a sense of coming home (aside from all of the trophies everywhere from various BBQ contests). As usual, I can never make up my mind as to what to order at a BBQ restaurant, so I go with a combination platter and got sweet potato fries and BBQ beans as my sides. What I didn't realize is that someone inconspicuously added some ribs to my plate for me to try. All of the BBQ meats were excellent. If I had to pick one that was my least favorite, I would probably pick the sausage. It was definitely not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, though. It was a simple presentation (split and then grilled). The brisket was very tasty (not a Texas style brisket though), as was the chicken (a leg quarter that was simply seasoned and smoked). The ribs possessed good texture and taste and left a clean bite mark when I took a bite. (PRO TIP: if your ribs are falling off the bone, they're overcooked) But the real star of the BBQ meats was the pork. It was moist, flavorful, and outright tasty! No sauce needed (though they do have a unique and tasty sauce). My favorite of the two sides was the sweet potato fries. They have a unique breading on the fries that gives them an extra special crunch. The beans were good -- nothing out of the ordinary. I do prefer more of a bold BBQ bean though. Well worth the visit during the week for lunch or in the evenings on weekends!

Can I give this 0 stars? Took over an hour to bring lunch out and the food was sub par and warm. This restaurant is off the highway in yazoo city, mississippi ( where?? exactly) and decided to try it out and let me tell you, I will never think of barbeque the same. Guys(and gals), unless you have time to spare and a stomach to upset, I would not recommend this place.

Good barbecue, good service. Enjoyed the hot wings appetizer. Had the pulled pork sandwich with slaw. Interesting sauce. Unique battered sweet potato fries. Recommend trying this local place.

We had seen this place on the Food Network and wanted to try it. My family was disappointed and had we not been working all day probably would have gone somewhere else. We went on a Saturday night. Staff was extremely friendly. A teenager came over and took our order. She seemed to have difficulty understanding our order. I ordered the combo plate with sausage, chicken, pork and brisket. My brother ordered half a slab of ribs. A few minutes after ordering, the girl came back and told me they were out of chicken and I could have another meat. Told her I wanted ribs and realized I would only get 1-2 and that was fine. She left and a minute later an older woman came out and informed me they don't substitute ribs. (So much for I could have anything else) she recommended more brisket so I agreed. Took a long time to get dinner. My best guess was 30 minutes. When it did arrive older woman informed us there were no rolls and we could have buns instead. Bigger problem was the food was cold. The only reason we stayed, and only reason I'm giving two stars vice one is the flavor of most items even cold was great. Pork, sausage and my brother's ribs were all great. Brisket was dry and not great. Again, people were friendly and flavor was good. But my overall recommendation would be unless you see Ubons at a BBQ competition and can get it hot off smoker, I would skip it.

We stopped 12/6/14 and had a pulled pork and slaw sandwich that was very good Asked for ribs but they were out at 1;30 pm?? Food was good but decor was faded :-( All said I'll try the ribs before giving final judgement Overall three stars on the p p sandwich

While on a trip through the Delta, I stopped here for a late Lunch while staying up the street for the night. Upon walking in, I was surprised to see all of the trophies won at BBQ contests, especially the big awards from Memphis in May. Those trophies are serious prizes! I ordered the Combination plate with Potato Salad and Beans. They were out of Sausage, so they substituted 4 ribs for it, to go with Pork Shoulder, Sliced Brisket, a Chicken Quarter, and the sides. The best thing in my takeout box was the beans. Very good flavor and seasonings. The potato salad was ok, but seemed like it had too much liquid in the dressing. The Chicken Quarter was the best of my Barbecue meats, and it was very good. The other meats all had a similar flaw---- too smoky, and not quite tender enough. A lot of people think smoke is a good thing coming out of a barbecue pit. Too much smoke can make meat bitter. That is what happened to my dinner. All of the meat was OK, but not up to the quality of the awards in the dining room. The Ribs were a little tough, and the meat didn't pull away from the bones cleanly. The Spareribs did have a lot of meat on them, but they needed more time in the cooker. The pulled pork and sliced brisket were fair, but I expected more from a Memphis in May winner. Next time I'm down in the Delta I may go back on a Friday. I went on a late Saturday afternoon. I suspect my food had been cooked the day before, and wasn't quite right. I think they deserve another chance, though.
